Between 2000 and 2002, BeneCent successfully delivered more than 100,000 square feet of soldier barracks, which have performed exceptionally well in real-world conditions. These facilities operated reliably over time and were highly regarded by the client due to their durability, thermal performance, and low maintenance requirements.

Lightweight Materials and Curved Roof Safety Advantage

From a military safety perspective, BeneCent’s use of lightweight concrete materials, combined with its curved (arched) roof geometry, offers an important protective characteristic. Unlike rigid, heavily confined structures, BeneCent buildings are less prone to catastrophic confinement effects in the event of an internal explosion.

If an explosion were to occur inside the building—such as from an improvised or localized blast—the lightweight materials reduce secondary fragmentation, while the arched roof shape helps dissipate blast pressure rather than trapping and amplifying it. The curved geometry is inherently less rigid against internal blast forces, allowing pressure to be released more gradually.

This behavior can reduce structural collapse severity, limit debris projection, and potentially decrease injuries and fatalities compared to more rigid, flat-roofed, heavily reinforced structures. While no building can be considered blast-proof, BeneCent’s material selection and structural form contribute to improved blast response and occupant survivability.
